Paraguay President Fernando Lugo, while attending both the United Nations General Assembly meetings and the Clinton Global Initiative, shared with friends over dinner some of the other meetings he had been having in New York.

He met this head of state. . .and that head of state. . .and so on. . .

. . .but then the room went silent and then broke into subdued laughter

when he confided that he was approached about meeting with GOP Vice Presidential candidate and Alaska Governor Sarah Palin.

President Lugo turned the meeting down.

With all due respect to Paraguay and its great citizens, something is really wrong when the Paraguayan President won't even hang with Palin.

But note to world leaders, PLEASE start meeting with her.
Otherwise, she'll never get any credible international experience.

No, I think it was cool. How do you know the other leaders actually appreciated her?

Remember, the Republicans are isolationists so we don't need the world. In fact, they're perfectly fine with blasting away all other countries but maybe Isreal. With McCain in office, we may be on our way.

It doesn't matter because the apparent straight world leaders were only impressed with what a beautiful woman she was and nothing else.

Oh Lord, um, other countries have good looking women, you know - genuinely beautiful, well educated, independent women, many in politics. The rest of the world is rather more cosmopolitan than you seem to think.

I would expect that other world leaders see Sarah Palin for the backwater frump she is. ESPECIALLY men from places like Paraguay.

Of course they're all laughing their heads off.

No, I don't think he is gay.
Most of the people she met with are from countries who the US is aiding or who perhaps want something.
This guy knows, as they all do, that he is only being thought of as a prop for her photo-op and perhaps he has more self respect than the rest of them.

Letterman said something like - seeing Sarah there in a photo with a dignitary reminds a person of 'take your daughter to work day'. And, in a sense, it does.

No wonder her few interviews are scrutinized to death. She has not given us much more. There is no 'regular' Sarah, whom we all love, as a backdrop to her goofs.

How can an entire campaign for VP be constructed with no talking to the people, the press, allowed? Theoretically, they could keep her mouth and brain cloistered. All she really has to do is one debate, and even that is not mandated.
Sarah, the mystery candidate.

When she gives a talk she is whisked away right afterward with no questions and answers allowed.

No reporters are permitted at her UN meetings.

After her UN visits she attended some charitable dinner for woman of/with power the world over, but people saw her just enter through the doorway, have a few photos taken, and leave.
She never even said but a few words about the charity - as though she did not care, just wanting to be seen in photos next to 'serious' woman in a good cause.

You can gild the garlic, but it still tastes bad.

No disrespect meant to garlic.
