Both mcCain and Palin were chosen because the Republicans knew they would probably lose this election and didn't want to "waste" anyone else....they have 4 years to desperately try to find something better....
Apparently to ensure his demise and his place in the Senate!
That's what I think. He chose her because he knew all along he didn't stand much chance of winning. He knew she'd make a great scape goat. That's why he has her doing all the dirty work with this Ayers issue.
He knows that in another month it's back to the Senate, where he'll brag that he spent the campaign firing people who said "Hussein." All those dirty tricks--that was somebody else, not him. And he can grouse about what a great POTUS he would have been, if only he could have picked Joe Lieberman like he wanted to.
About a month ago, a key GOP type (Rove or Schmidt) was quoted in the press as saying she was "a campaign pick, not a governing pick." Her selection was a gimmick, a form of wise-crack by McCain, like McCain's remark in debate two when he referred to Senator Obama as "that one." She was picked for her appeal as a female candidate for the campaign effort. It's a 50-50 chance that their plan is to dump her shortly after a McCain win, so that she can "spend more time with my family" and then they'll pick some hack like Frist or Lott to be the VP in place of Palin. Long shot, but she's a joke and the GOP knew it from the start.
Man, someone's got to tell him to can it with the wisecracks. Like that hairplug joke during the debate. His jokes just aren't funny.
