Call Rahm Emmanuel what you want, he is the right combination of nut-cutter and diplomat to handle the chief of staff job. Most people who have filled that job, for both parties have not been all that good at it.

He's got a history of supporting lousy Dem candidates. (Harold ford, Melissa Bean) This Dem in Florida who lost his race was one of his picks. He's not very progressive and he doesn't care about civil liberties. He's an establisment guy. Has alot of contempt for grassroot Dems.

I've always admired Emanuel's tireless work ethic.

I don't think it's a bad idea on Obama's part, however, Emanuel will alienate his share of Dems (and Republicans of course).
