Those of you wanting to see a first class, critically acclaimed play BUT can't go to London (that would be me !) - the National Theatre in London will be filming the play "A Street Car Named Desire" from a LIVE production being run right now in London. Then it will be broadcast to hundreds of participating Cinemas around the world. That will be on Sept 16,2014 only. Should come to your area and all u have to do is go to : www.nationaltheatre.org.uk and get info. It's coming up quick, so look into it if you desire to see a first class, critically acclaimed play that is starring Gillian Anderson as Blanche.

Nothing less than rave reviews by London critics and it sold out faster than any other Young Vic theatre production in history. This would be a rare opportunity to see a world class, iconic play. It hasn't been advertised well (IMHO), so I'm posting on some social sites to help others have the chance.
I believe there will be future plays broadcast this way and I'm signing up so I don't miss ones I'd like to see and would have no other way of viewing. I find this exciting and a brilliant idea. Best to all !

I wasn't able to find any information on your link, but this may work better: A Streetcar Named Desire - National Theatre Live

(And technically it's an American play being performed in London, but that's just a minor quibble. )

I am curious though. When performed in London, do they use a British accent (which should come easy for Anderson, who spent much of her childhood in England), or the intended Southern drawl?

Yes, APex, it's an American play, i was just referring to WHERE it was being staged.
I read some reviews and it will be in a southern accent. Thanks for the better link. I was able to use the one I posted, but I believe yours is more specific. I am excited about going, hope more plays are broadcast in this manner. You thinking of going???

I'll probably skip this one, but there have been other stage productions shown on the big screen, and I'm sure they'll continue to do so. I know that Regal Cinemas frequently show operatic performances from the Met, ballet productions, and plays and musicals (I think last summer they showed Sondheim's Company with Neil Patrick Harris, Patti LuPone, Christina Hendricks, Jon Cryer and others. It's nice to see these grand productions that are otherwise inaccessible to me without expensive travel.

I am going tomorrow night with a few friends. I knew about the Met performances, hadn't seen the National Theatre's events advertised. In fact, I am disappointed there hasn't been anything mentioned in the papers I'm reading. My paper sees fit to print yet another Rocky Horror revival or the like, but fails to mention this or any other NT producton show in cinemas. Seems lacking to me.
I am now signed up to get updates on coming productons. Perhaps the cinema I'm going to, Regal AMC, puts "coming soon" trailers up before, but I havn't been to the movies in a while (ill).
When I reserved/bought tickets for tomorrow night, there weren't any "unavailable" seats, so it may not have many sales, or hopefully, people will just show up. Thanks for the posts, take care.
