Where does one meet accepting people in Eugene. (school, community college)

Why would you want to do such a crazy thing? Meet other people? That's crazy-talk.

Maybe adopt a dog that needs a home. Dogs make great friends, if you don't mind your friends slobbering all over your face, stinking up your house, and you don't mind picking up your friends poop.

Meeting people is easy. You can do it at the checkout line in the grocery store. Getting beyond surface formalities and forming relationships with others takes a more selective approach. For most people, shared interests and like-mindedness are important factors in making friends. The most common places people make social connections anywhere (Eugene included) are:

1. work
2. school: taking a community college class is a good way to come in contact with people of similar interests.
3. church: a good place to meet people who share your beliefs. If you're not the religious creedal type, but you are a thinker, you can always attend a Unitarian fellowship.
4. musical ensembles: community bands, orchestras and choirs are a good way to rejuvenate those rusty musical skills that have fallen into disuse.
5. sports teams: most cities have outlets for community basketball, softball, volleyball and other participation sports.
6. outdoor groups: hiking and environmental clubs, cycling clubs, fishing clubs, etc.
7. shared-interest groups: gardening clubs, car clubs, book clubs, dining groups, etc.
8. service clubs: Masonry, Lions Club, Rotary International and the like are a bit old-fashioned, but in smaller towns they are often important hubs of social networking.
9. local government volunteering: getting involved in your local planning commission, park and recs commission, school board, PTA, etc.

Basically social networking is like anything else -- you get out of it what you put into it. Most local papers have some kind of "community bulletin board" section that informs the public of potential social networking opportunities.

Of course if you were born after 1980, "friends" are sort of a hypothetical entity. You get them by clicking your mouse and adding them to your collection on some cyber-page list.
