SENIOR police officers want cruise control to be mandatory in all cars to help drivers stick to speed limits in areas near schools.

The Association of Scottish Police Superintendents (Asps)is also calling for “black boxes” to be fitted in vehicles driven by younger motorists with the data they collect used to calculate insurance premiums.

Becoming like a nanny state every day because of other peoples stupidity..

It´s terrible, the standard of driving in Scotland and the UK as a whole used to be good and one of the safest in the world.

Whats happened? No we are excusing the errors of the people themselves instead of enforcing more penalties/fines, bring in more testing to the problem of careless driving.

Are these really in answer to the issue?

Err-I think before the police start shouting about speed restrictors for Joe Bloggs they need to sort out how they drive.
My family live in Durham in NE England and in the last 3 months they have had near misses with 2 police cars . One was travelling at excessive speed through a busy junction against a red light and my father had to slam on his brakes to avoid him.He had his light flashing but no sirens on.Police car didn't even stop.
The second incident involved my sons father with my son and father as passengers. They were approaching a road junction of a residential road with the main road.As they approached the junction (thankfully moving slowly) a police car coming up the main road with no lights or sirens on cut the corner off to access another residential road and my sons father had to slam on his brakes. This car stopped and the passenger got out and asked if everyone was OK and apologised and said they'd just had a call from their "mate" who was sitting in the entrance to the residential road with a speed camera.

Remember how technology was supposed to liberate us? Seems like the opposite is the case.

I'm fed up of them trying to control our speeds they are going mad. If they are going to tell us to drive a car at 30mph what is the point in even getting a car you may aswell walk.

At least they are changing the motorways and dual carriageways to 80mph from january.

I agree policemen often put on their sirens so that they can get past the traffic. I think they should be punished for this because its not fair that they do this and cheat the law.
