Hello,
I don't want to offend anyone. Just being curious. I'm going to spend 10 hours in Naples, whithout staying in a hotel. Is Naples dangeorous for an average tourist? Is it possible to loose your photocamera?
And I'm also curious about that famous garbage problem. Is it really so bad? I hope that there are no garbage at Capadimonte or near that beatiful catholic monastery, which I want to visit.
Yes it is possible to lose your photocamera, but it's not very likely if you keep a tight hold of it. I would not say it is dangerous in the sense of being killed or injured. Naples is a very fun, buzzy city in the warmer months.

Italian cities have a reputation for pick-pockets, so I'd keep all your belongings close, but I haven't heard anything about violent crime being a problem in Italy.
OK, thanks a lot for your answers. I usually keep my camera tightly and it's connected with my neck, so I hope no one will try to break my neck just to get the camera. :-)
pickpocketing is rife......Don't wander off on the side street u have no clue about. They work in pairs, one distracts you , the other one robs you..sometimes it's just opportunity, u leave something on the table , or on the wall etc.trains, train stations..and just keep your wits about you...

I'm from Naples.
Naples may look like almost a third world city, but it's not really dangerous: in fact its murder rate is by far lower than several USA and Eastern Europe's cities.
Stay in the historical center and avoid the outskirts, that's all.
I'll have to remember the pick-pocketing thing if I ever visit Italy. I'd love to surprise a would be pick-pocket with a harmless booby trap in my jacket pocket
