If you've got it, don't flaunt it -- at least not on the Spanish resort island of Mallorca, where citizens are so sick of under dressed tourists that fines could soon be issued for inappropriate attire.
A proposed new law, reportedly close to being enacted, will ban the wearing of swimwear outside bathing areas in the island's capital, Palma.
There is no sense about wearing bikini in the streets... bikini is for bathing or walking next to the sea. I once saw it in Madrid as well, city without beaches.
This is a non-issue. Bikinis and speedos aren't acceptable town wear in most countries. The only reason Mallorca needs a law against it is the hordes of tourists who are indifferent to common standards of decency when they're on vacation. They wouldn't go to the grocery store and walk around town in scanty beach wear at home.

What a load of newsh*t. Bathing suits of all types allowed (and will continue to be allowed) on the beach, boardwalks and nearby streets...where's the problem? Where's the story?

John..we have the same ban on my hometown.
In this town we have two nudist/textile beaches, one gay nude beach and around 10 normal beaches.
You are allowed to use bikinis/tangas/strip tangas and also, occasionally, somebody goes nude in a normal beach, something considered bad taste but no fines imposed.
The problem is that bathers enter into town (we have a crowded, small, medieval town packed with cafes and shops) with a tanga, a strip tanga, or bikini, or men without a shirt...and really, it doesn't look good at all.
Imagine somebody walking with a tanga in a mall...
Sometimes tourist walk around Barcelona with a bikini or speedo...not anymore.
I don't think the government should be telling people how to dress. Pointe finale.
