This question is from a non-Danish EU citizen with US-source pensions. The US-Denmark tax treaty indicates that the pensions are taxable only in the USA (I believe). Can someone familiar with that please verify if it is a correct assumption? If so, does that include municipal taxes, or only country-wide taxes?
Would a pensioner already receiving a Social Security pension from another country be required to pay into the Danish Social Security system?
Retiring to Denmark in that situation (as a self-sufficient person) with US source pensions and US social security, assuming they are untaxed, is it possible to pay to be covered by the Danish healthcare system?
According to EU regulations self-sufficient persons have to have comprehensive sickness insurance so as to not be a burden on the host country. So, private insurance is a requirement, but at some point does the Danish health system become available?
I have been unable to find a website with the answers to these questions, so if you can point me to one, it would be most appreciated. Thanks!
