On the Carfax it says damage to front which isn't very specific. The dealer (part of a reputable group I've purchasing from before) says it was minor damage to the front bumper. I was turned off by it but the vehicle with the options I want is almost impossible to find so I'm thinking I should reconsider, literally the only one in the country with the options I want under a set price range.

How much under KBB should I pay? Fair Market Range is $65,009-$73,191, Trade in is at $58,700-$63,200 and they are at $65,400. There are no accidents reported on the Carfax, just the other damage reported. I asked this in the general automotive section and got a bunch of other comments that didn't pertain to what I'm asking so again, all I'm asking is with what's on the carfax how much should be offered when looking at retail and trade in values?

Based on your other post, that type of reporting is generally when a repair occurs not related to a collision. Doesn't mean mean there was no collision, just that whatever happened (collision, runaway shopping cart, kid on scooter, Two Ton Tony slipped, vandalism, grandmas walker fell from car, etc,) caused damage that was repaired and reported. So, all you can do is have the area inspected or ask for any records they may have to support it was just a minor thing.

The strange thing is Carfax is saying the damage happened on 01/16 but Carfax didn't start reporting it until 07/17.

God only knows how that stuff gets to Carfax. Some shop somewhere might actually sell some guy literal paperwork that some poor soul has to manually key in several months later after they find their stapler, if they haven't burned the place down already. Could also be a typo. I instinctively take Carfax with a grain of salt anyhow.

Could be a delay in data entry or some other legitimate reason. The point is it's on the report and if the dealer is backing up the claim that something happened. So, why the delay or when and such is really a minor distraction. The only question remaining is the extent of that "other" damage. You can trust the reputation of the dealer (especially if they had first hand knowledge) or you can have it independently inspected to determine the extent of damage. The issue is both CarFax (regardless of opinions of them) reported damage and the Dealer both say damage occurred. Now, how bad was it really?

I trust the dealership, if was some random off brand dealership I would think twice.

I did a nationwide search with no cost added for kicks, found a whopping 0 other ones matching my needs (excluded SVR). I don't think I've ever encountered this problem before. I just started looking last week but it seems like I'm going to have a real problem if this one doesn't workout.
