Greenwich, CT: Looks from around the grocery store>
In for Girls: Uggs (Still! Boo!), skinny & straight jeans, fitted jackets, LuluLemon jackets and pants, sparkly shirts and dresses for work wear, oversized cowl neck sweaters, black leggings, riding boots, wool mittens or leather gloves (no cotton gloves), huge sunglasses even at dusk, knee length skirts Out for Girls: Sweatpants/shirts, snow boots, pajama bottoms, bootleg jeans, nude colored stockings, plain black pumps (I literally never see them on anyone anymore!), puffer jackets, North Face jackets
IN: Hoodies (hooded sweatshirts)... sort of "status quo" here for many years, with both men & women. They work year-round in our weather! Also high-waisted pants for the ladies, and skinny jeans for the guys. OUT: Low-rider aka butt-crack jeans (thank god!!), except with the teen girls; also out are Uggs, and the hippie look unless you're a homeless kid on Haight Street.

LOL, isnt that true! Here in Dayton Uggs seem to be all over, but I see they are already "out" in SF per previous post. Also seeing those funny inca hats or whatever they are called. The knit ones with the droopy sides.
Generally speaking the thug look is still popular here with younger people.
The hilarious thing is that the Inca hats, which I just saw ALL over midtown Manhattan over Christmas, were being sold like hotcakes in my tiny Illinois hometown four years ago. When did we get so accidentally cutting edge?
Well it's winter and in Chicago it seems like every other white collar yuppie type (men & women) has a North Face jacket. Wool pea coats also remain popular, but with perhaps more modern styling than before. Is this also true in other cold weather cities; like NYC, Philly, or Boston?
What's popular here is a generic version of what was popular on either coast 6-12 months ago. Always been that way, always will.
I don't do popular, I do basic/classic.

Just walked around NYC 3 weeks ago and wool pea coats were out in full force! North Face seemed to only be worn by tourists that were gathering near 30 Rock/5th Ave.
