Its because people don't want to carry an extra flash light, they'd rather smile and illuminate dark alleys and so on.

Stupid marketing that the dumb masses fall for.

I can't help feeling that once all these folks have finished whitening the heck out of their teeth and their enamel is so weak the teeth just fall apart they'll put even more money in their dentists pockets having nice bright white dentures made.

The whole 'whiter brighter smile' thing is a marketing ploy aimed at shallow people who take appearances above anything else.

Agreed, to great extent. However, there -are- people for whom whitening will benefit; people who have actual staining or mottling from medication, smoking, overconsumption of tannin-containing drinks, soda, etc. On the other hand, people who go through the trouble (and endure the risk of permanent sensitivity) to get their teeth whitened, need to combine the results with preventative care. That means - no more smoking, no more over-consumption of tannin-containing drinks, no more soda, etc. etc.

If they're not willing to prevent it from happening again, then they should just suck it up and live with stained teeth because they're really just wasting everyone's time.

I'm all for it. I think it looks great. I'm generally more attracted to women who whiten their teeth,

I think it makes a big difference as people age. I have noticed several people I know in the 60+ age group and the color of their teeth is actually really gross.

I am not an advocate of neon-blinding-white teeth, but I do think that some mild whitening generally improves most people's appearance, and particularly once you get up past the 40's.

That makes complete sense. What is concerning is that you would not bother to learn the definition of "hygiene".

My mom was getting her tea-stained teeth professionally whitened. She had already paid for the guy to fly in to work on her. I figured that I might as well give it a shot since he's in town. It's 2 years later now and they still look good. They never looked fake, overly white, or bluish.

To the folks that are concerned about the fake looking teeth, who do you use?
