Since this is a forum with fashion, I wanted to ask a question out of curiosity, when was the big hair style with teased bangs and spiraly hair big and popular? what years did it come inot style and when did it go out of style? just curious, thank you!

I remember my Uncle getting a perm around 1976, I believe that to of been the peak for men

There may have been a different peak for women, and/or you asking about big Maddona like hair circa 1984 or so

Madonna lost her perm by 1991. She looked rather "modern" for that time period:

Most women started to have big hair by 1984. The style completely waned by 1994. The early 90s were a mixed bag - Some women had big hair (especially older ones), whilst the younger generation had the grunge look (which involved straight hair).

When I ever I look at a high school yearbook from like 1989-1993, its like I see huge skyscraper bangs and big spiral curls

I remember it being pretty popular in the early to mid-eighties. By the nineties, it was pretty much gone, at least in the Upper Midwest. Might have hung on longer in other parts of the country.

I remember young girls wearing big, fizzy hair with extremely stiff bangs in the mid to late 1980s.

Don't forget the South. These guys had mullets and big hair up until 1996.

1993 yearbook (don't see a lot of perm):

I don't see many mullets or big hair in your pics .

The perms were most popular (with girls) in the late 70s to the early 80s. I graduated high school in 78. I don't recall man perms being popular; it was mocked quite a bit. The black kids in my class wore their hair in Afros--some really big. By the early 80s a lot of them had moved on to Jheri curls.

The big hair in the 80s was not necessarily from perms--by the mid-eighties, the perms were spiral--not the curly perms popular earlier. There was lots of back combing/teasing. I remember when mousse became a thing. And lots and lots of hairspray.

As far as Ethereal's quote about the South, I lived in Mississippi in the late 70s & early 90s. I won't forget it.

In the mid 70's I permed my hair. I loved it, the only time in my life I ever had wash & go hair. It looked like Barbra Streisand's hair in A Star is Born.
