I'm 28 and I went to a park a few days ago. A few women thought I was 17-18 years old. They were shocked when I told them I was 28, and this is with somewhat visible 5 o'clock shadow. I'm also short and athletic-looking in physique, so I don't know what role that played.
Doesn't this also have something to do with the age of the "shocked" women? A 30-something woman (person) is going to see a 28 year old as a 28-or-thereabouts-aged person. A 60-something person is going to see anyone between the ages of 17-29/30 as a teenager.

So true. I'm in the Marines. This past summer a 1-star general was talking to me and she referred to me as a "young man." After she was finished talking to me a couple junior Marines were looking at me and snickering. I asked what their wise-a$$es were laughing at. One said, "Sir, she called you a 'young man.' But you're not." It's all relative.
I look my age, however I've been confused for being a 5th grader when I was teaching that grade level. I blended right in, height-wise. I don't know what folks are feeding their kids these days, but they grow them tall now-a-days!
I have looked younger than my age since I was a teenager.
Same here. I am 36. I can count on one hand the number of times I have been estimated to be even 30. Generally I get ~25-28. Occasionally a little younger. I look a little bit older in some pictures but I have not had anyone guess my actual age since I was around 14.
Most people look their age, but think they look younger.
That is probably true in many cases... but when you're 38 (like me) and STILL get carded about 50% of the time, even when your friends of the same age do not, it's a pretty good indication that one doesn't look their age. In my case it's a redhead thing, as we generally don't wrinkle as much due to avoiding the sun (and/or wearing sunblock constantly). Sun will age a person much faster!
P.S. I was also mistaken for a high school student recently BY a student, while doing some outreach at their school... they asked if I was on the volleyball team, since there was a "Join Volleyball" sign near my table. Like I even have the build for that? LOL
