I think white is going to be around for quite a while longer. I like the other options for first time brides. White is not a very flattering color for us lighter skinned women.. I chose ivory simply because it was a more flattering color for my skin tone.
I love blush. If I ever got married again I would like to look at a blush colored gown.
This vintage style one is really pretty LJ183B Inspired vintage blush colored cap sleeved lace tulle prom wedding dress :
Plus I thought white dresses were a fairly recent development in wedding dresses. It used to just be the nicest dress you could afford or already owned, right?
There have always been brides who wear what they like on their wedding day; some choose traditional, some do not.
One red and black bride fits right into that.
We got married in Vegas with no family or friends there, so I dared to be different and wear a shorter black velvet dress. That was the mid-90's, so it was even a little more daring then. But whenever I look at the photo I still like the look.
I think the long flowing white dress and flattering veils will always be the preference, though.
Pastel colour gowns look perfectly appropriate IMO. There are funky styles that have an ombre colour effect, with dark violet, indigo, or some other colour fading into a white or a shade of cream. Some styles have some colourful floral touches near the bottom hem.
I've seen a couture all-black wedding gown in a shop window that looked absolutely gorgeous. Not gothic, but very elegant and avant-garde.
Just saw a post on another forum (oops)-a wedding photo of a couple, she wearing a black and red dress and black shoes. Looked really nice!
It's been a gazillion years since I've been to a wedding. Is white not in vogue anymore?
Given that the idea that motivated wearing white and a veil were the supposed sexual purity of the bride, there can hardly be any reason for these things anymore.

Actually, it became 'the thing to do' back in 1840. Queen Victoria chose to wear white and it became all the rage.
