Unfortunately most manufacturers design with teens and 20-somethings in mind because they are who buys mountains of clothes. No someone like you and me, who go yrs between buying something, make do, and don't need it- no money to be made.

I'm 63- and although I'm not heavy, modest, poor, or anything else you can think of, I have a terrible time trying to find clothes that don't look spray painted on, shows your belly button, or pants that barely stay up. I don't mind fashionable but the clothes now are VERY uncomfortable!!

You are just going to continue look around. Try consignment stores where ppl have brought clothes in order to make room for more trendy, up to date, "fashionable" clothes. Or stores that have a more "old fashion" feel, like JC Penny.

Good luck.

What are your specific "fit issues"? My only "fit issue" is that I am under 5'5" so I need a petite. Petite sizes are not only about length. Which is easily corrected. It's about necklines, sleeves and armholes.

So, I can relate.

The least expensive place to find church appropriate dresses that is not online is J.C.Penny. The only think is if you are a "special size" eg. tall, women's, plus or petite, they may not have them in your local store.

My second go to place for budget dresses is Chadwicks. I know you don't love the idea of buying online, and I had to overcome that hurdle myself - but they are so reasonable that it might be a good idea to try one, - right now, the summer dresses are $20 to 35 dollars. They are good about returns. And you really can't lose.

More pricey places such as Talbots and Ann Taylor, will have the dresses you want, but at another price point. Higher.

I'd also check out TJMaxx and Marshall's.

Chadwick's - https://www.chadwicks.com/home.do?ut...0-%2520Desktop
This gave me an idea- if you are not tall, try a tall size dress- it may be longer on you. Wear a camisole or lace dickie if the neck is too low. A lacey, lightweight sweater will help cover your arms if needed.

Many larger metro areas have outlets such as Ann Taylor Loft or Nordstrom Rack which have career wear at reasonable prices. You can also find them online:

LOFT: Women's Clothing, Petites, Dresses, Pants, Shirts, Sweaters

Two of my favorite stores for conservative attire which haven't been mentioned here are White House/Black Market, and J Jill.
