Just wondering, I think maybe I should keep my nails neat but unpolished (they are strong) If you wear nail polish do you use clear, soft colors or bold colors? I'm in my 60's and have a little arthritis.

I'm 62 and I haven't worn nail polish for 40 years. I decided to move toward a healthy lifestyle which meant eliminating as many chemicals as possible. I must have read something on it. I don't like inhaling the fumes. I just buff for a healthy shine.

I think most people have stiffness in their hands in their 60s, but keeping the hands active helps more than trying to shield them from activities, I think.

Arthritis is NOT caused by toxicity. Osteoarthritis is caused by aging/wear and tear. Inflammatory arthritis is caused by a faulty autoimmune system. I am in my mid 50s and I don't think I am "older". I have arthritis in my hands, complete with lumps on the joints closest to my fingernails. I've never worn nail polish, so I don't know how I would have gotten arthritis. But I have it. Osteoarthritis *and* inflammatory arthritis.

Anyhow, if you want to wear nail polish, wear it! It might draw attention to your misshapen fingers, but you have nothing to be ashamed of!

I stopped wearing nail polish a few decades ago. I just buff them to a nice shine. My understanding is nail polish covers up a body part that really needs to be exposed to air, light, etc. You can read your body health signals by checking out your fingernails....so I leave them alone when it comes to color, polish etc.

If the purpose is to make your nails look nicer without drawing attention to your hands, then a nice muted color would still accomplish that. I'm thinking of pale pinks.

If there is actual evidence for toxicity and reading body signals through nail beds, please post it--I'd be interested to see it.

I said Toxicity in most cases causes arthritis..and nail varnish has many toxins in them. MY husband suffers badly from R.A.. and has been told this by his doctors

Heavy metals can bind to body proteins. The immune system recognizes these proteins as a foreign object and attacks them, leading to so-called autoimmune disorders.
