I know high heels look sexy & all, but I've always liked the look of wedges even more personally & they're more stable to walk w/.
Or, if you're truly a beginner with wearing heeled shoes, boots or something with an ankle strap might be easier to walk in and provide a little more support.

Yeah well I won’t be able to wear them much anyway. As long as the shoe shows the toes then I like it
Well, I'll speak for my wife who is quite fashionable (Dallas!) and over 50 and reports that she has never worn high heels in her life. I don't think she or her shoes could ever qualify as "homely".
My shoes, on the other hand? Well, I'm a guy; it's mostly running shoes, Beans duck boots, or work boots from Wal-Mart. I've got a couple pairs of Alden or Allen Edmonds dress shoes. All with low heels.
Calling non-heels "homely" is super-judgey and not helpful. There are plenty of cute, fashionable flat shoes for women who don't want to wear heels. Fashion is a big tent, and we can wear what makes us feel good in a variety of ways.
