Just wondering how the general public views a large tooth gap. I was under the impression that many people view it as hillbillyish and unprofessional, while some view it as plain ugly and some view it as sexy.
I have one..and I've always gotten compliments of how sexy it is!! I mean its not that out of the ordinary..as long as you don't look like Yuk Yuk..ur good to go!
My brother has a slight gap... he had HORRIBLE teeth, wore braces for years, then slacked off when wearing his retainer, resulting in a slight gap. Women have always called it "charming". So yeah, for him it's worked. It does sort of "fit" him and his character somehow.
My dh had one. Same deal with the failure to use a retainer thing after braces. He disliked it very much and had it filled in. Personally, I don't view someone any different with or without. Madonna seems to have done ok with a bit of a gap! LOL
To be honest, when dh got his "fixed" I kind of missed it at first.
My wife had a gap when I met her. It wasn't a factor in how i viewed her. She developed TMJ after we got married and needed braces for the second time. The oral surgeon who did her TMJ jaw surgery also removed a bit of muscle/tissue from between her teeth and the braces closed the gap.
Now if the gap it big enough to fit a tooth in, that's different.
Lauren Hutton and Andie McDowell come to mind as good examples of how it can be a bonus in the look department. It depends on the rest of the package!!!!!
It's caused by a membrane that grows between the two teeth. Some people have a larger membrane than others. It's not a personality or socioeconomic defect; instead, it's heredity, plain and simple.
Mine was "fixed" when I had to get a crown on one of my front teeth after my mouth experienced an unfortunate collision with a golf ball. The dentist designed my crown to fill the gap halfway down the bottom of the tooth. The gap is still at the gum, but it's much less noticeable. But otherwise I wouldn't have done anything about it; it would have required surgery and braces, but the rest of my teeth were aligned just fine, and I wasn't about to go through all that just for two little teeth. Still wouldn't.
