I'm a bit confused. Why would you think you'd be mocked in a place that is more conservative?

I lived in Pensacola for a year. I'm from New York City and I'm a blue blooded, young liberal/progressive. I was forewarned that I'd be moving to the bible belt and people would be in my face all the time. All just a bunch of nonsense if you ask me! I didn't have any problems down there. Yes, people did talk about God but no more than people do up here. The only difference I can think of is that people did invite me to attend church much more frequently than I'd ever be asked up here. I didn't find it annoying, I thought it was sweet. Other than that, I didn't notice any differences living there. Bless their hearts.

Most of us who have moved here from other parts find the "Good Ole Boy" mentality in Northern Florida/ panhandle. Have a brother who has lived in Florida for 35 years and warned us before we came here. As relates to jobs and general attitude toward non-Floridians... it is covert but the attitude is there. Having spent my life all over the world; I find it hard to deal with at times...On the eastern end it is like an extension of Georgia. The further south you go, the better, I am told. More are transplants from other areas and you'll meet more of the type you are familiar with. Wish you well...

In terms of the good ol boy mentality, perhaps. An extension of GA... ah, yes.

Out of curiosity, where were you "mocked" and in what way?

I just had a lovely conversation with a conservative from Chicago here in SoFla. Just because we disagree on things doesn't mean we mocked or thought of each other as aliens.

To answer your question, though, yes, NoFla is very conservative.

Pensacola is kinda neutral, neither liberal nor conservative. Travel just a little bit outside of the city limits to areas like Molino, Jay, or Chumuckla and you'll find yourself deep in conservative territory.

^^^ Yes, I'd agree with this. The news coverage of certain happenings in Jay alone gave me chills.

Extremely conservative, and the level of corruption in everyday life is actually genuinely impressive with the level of graft in an allegedly 'good Christian community'.
