Searching Craigslist, I'm seeing that most Assistant Property Managers and even some leasing consultant jobs are asking for applicants to be licensed real estate agents. I do this in Ohio (am thinking of relocating), and in this state, you're actually not allowed to hold a real estate license if you work in an apartment community, you have to put it in escrow.

I'm not really interested in holding a FL real estate license, but will I have to if I want to continue my career?

If the community has more than 10 units or an annual budget exceeding $100K, you will need a CAM license. You can read more about it on the Department of Business & Professional Regulations here --> http://www.myfloridalicense.com/dbpr...cense_cam.html

Hmmm. It says "community manager", which makes sense, but doesn't say anything about assistant managers. We typically have a different scope of responsiblilites than managers, so I wonder if we'd be included?
