Hi everyone! I live in New York right now and attending a 2 year community college. I'm moving out to Florida in 6 months, and plannin on transferring to a 4 year school.
Now i got a few questions:

1)Where are the best places in Florida for a college student to move to and rent an apartment? (is fort meyers a good place? I prefer a good to decent neighborhood, doesnt have to be the best) I'm hopin to spend a maximum of 750 (hopefully), thats the most i could spend a month.

2) Whats the current wage out there for jobs in retail or workin as a cashier at a store? In NY its $7-8 a hr. I'm tryin to figure out how much Ima need to save up.

Any advice?

You could live in my city, rent is reasonable 1 bdrom apt is about 600.00 or cheaper if go in older area. Do you plan on working a year before you go to school here. as it is more expensive if not a resident for year here.
My father in law lives in Ft Meyers and wants out of there, Too much crime.
Tampa, also near college is cheaper. but rest of areas are high. except bad areas. Most Mcdonalds pay 7.00 hr here. but lots of Customer Service jobs in this area of Tampa pay 11.00 and up.
Verizon is always hiring customer service more pay with them. and benefits,
also they will pay for college after 1 yr on job. 8000 per year.
Progressive Insurance Riverview is also always hiring.

DONT GO TO FT MYERS.

youre gona get paid about 7 or 8 as a cashier here, but if youre interested in quality schools and any type of social life id stay the hell out of this area.

my family lives in cape coral but i am a student at FIU in miami. if i were you i would honestly thing about going to school there and living on campus at the dorms.

the only 4 year college in the ft myers area is FGCU and the campus life there is non-existant. not to mention the sorrounding towns arent very college friendly. youre gona be bored to death.

i am on financial aid and it covers most of every expense for FIU, the jobs in the area obviously pay more money than in ft myers and miami has a better atmosphere for a college student, in my opinion anyway.

You're going to have a really hard time anywhere in the state trying to go to school, work, and pay rent/utilities. Most students I know in Florida are living with multiple room mates.

Ft. Myers would be the biggest mistake of your life. IMHO, Your best bets would be Tampa or Orlando but even then, you can count on making minimum wage and hardly no one hires full time anymore.

Why in the world would you think 41 is too old to move?

What an awful thing to say! I see your reps are currently at 666...very appropriate IMHO...

People like you are one of the reasons I want to leave Florida In addition...it's too disgustingly HOT for far too long and the job market sucks along with employers that treat employees like crap!!!
