I don't believe I will have a hard time, because I was born in Jamaica, moved to Atlanta when I was 3 and am fluent in spanish. Besides being pricey, what else made you dislike Miami? Also what makes you want to get the heck out of FL?
Well, I've lived here all my life, so I'm ready for a change. I lived in the Ft. Lauderdale area and north of there for years and I've had it with the elderly, hurricanes, mosquitos, and suburban lifestyle (read: boring).

However, don't let me disuade you from coming to our state! Miami is a very cosmopolitan city, and there is a lot to do. However, your only good choice for grad school there is U of Miami, and it is a private school, so it is very expensive. There is also a lot of unspoken pressure in Miami to keep up with fads and trends, whether it be in cars, nightclubs, or whatever. Expect $25+ cover, $5+ drinks wherever you go for nightlife. Expect a nice diversity of people, but also a lot of shallow, money-grubbing people who are more interested in their "ride" than anything else. Then again, all big cities have their share of these problems!

Orlando is more family friendly- not to say there isn't anything for young people to do, but it can't hold a candle to Miami in that respect.

Default Cost of living is high in S. Florida

The cost of living in S. Florida is very high. The jobs do not pay much and the rents and housing are out of control. You probably will never afford to buy a house here, after graduating. The high taxes and insurance, and car insusrance is also high. It may be fine for getting an education here, the climate is nice and you live in paradise, but you may think on moving central or N. Florida where it is a little less expensive. I am considering moving shortly within the next 5 months to another state. It is a nice vacation spot though.
