Hello everyone! Advice is needed!
I've been reading up on Florida websites and books, but I figure personal experience would be the best way to go with this type of decision.

My husband was recently offered a job that starts training in September. We are currently in Georgia, but he will be relocating to Tampa for three months. Towards the middle of October, he will (possibly) be given a list of cities to choose from and we will need to relocate to one of them as a family in January.

The possible options in Florida are:
Ft. Myers
Jacksonville
Ocala
Orlando
Miami
Tampa
West Palm Beach

We are a young family, both 23 years of age, with a one year old daughter.
We are looking for affordable housing and great schools.
Lots to do in town on the weekends would be a plus.
Also, any city with a large number of public libraries would be great!

Any suggestions? We are also considering living in a surrounding area outside of the city chosen.

Thanks in advance, guys!

Haha! I figured that may have been too broad of a word. Mainly looking for houses for rent at $1,000 and under per month. Everything else (Gas, food, etc ) we are prepared for.

I can tell you that in WPB you will have a hard time finding a house for rent below a $1,000 unless safety is of no concern.

Some parts of Boca Raton have 2 Beds for under 1000. Davie might also be an option.

Scratch off Miami and West Palm Beach unless your willing to spend and live in a 1 Bedroom Apt for $1300/month or pay $2K+/month for a detached house for safer nice areas...that is, if you can even find a rental. The market is tight and places that appear on line are often already taken.

Anything less than $1300/month will likely be in a undesirable area or Section 8 complexes. A lot of apartment complexes down here advertise rates that break below the $1K barrier but what they fail to mention is those are for ground floor units which always almost go first, they charge more for 2nd and 3rd floors and up, and often add on extra if it has a lake or courtyard view, on top of they have many hidden fees, trash and water. That perceived low rent turns into $1200 to $1300 in no time.

Jacksonville is the only one on your list that fits the criteria of a large city with rentals in your price range, good schools and lots to do on weekends. Check out Nassau County to the north of Jacksonville or Clay County to the southwest. Both have good schools (both are ranked in the Top 10 of school districts statewide), are family friendly and are close enough for jaunts into the city.
