Just curious what city would be the best suited for someone who doesn't drive? Not worried about other things like economy etc.

Miami by far has the most comprehensive transit system in the state with both buses and a heavy rail system. If looking more from a retiree's or non-working person's perspective I would recommend the Clearwater Beach to St Pete Beach peninsula as a good option, or in/around downtown Clearwater. The Suncoast Beach Trolley runs every 20 - 30 minutes from 5:05 a.m. to 10:10 p.m., Monday through Thursday and Sunday, including holidays, with service until midnight on Friday and Saturday. In addition to the services along Gulf Boulevard to/from downtown Clearwater, connector routes run between the coast and downtown St. Petersburg.

Yeah, definitely Miami. But it's still very much a car-culture city, like LA or Houston.

Miami. Its not even a question. That does not mean Miami's transit is good. It isn't for a city its size but compared to every other city in the South besides for Atlanta its Miami. There are plenty of neighborhoods where one could live without a car as long as their work was close to a rail or express bus station.

Thank you guys. Was just scoping out some areas, nothing serious. I do have some friends in Cape Coral I will be moving in with next summer. SWFL doesn't really interest me as much as Tampa/St. Petersburg or Miami/Fort Lauderdale. I'm a long time bartender so I would imagine that work in that profession would be around some bus routes.

The beach communities of St Pete Beach/Treasure Island/Indian Rocks Beach and Clearwater Beach would be good options in an area with a decent cost of living.

There are pockets in Tampa bay that you could live without a car. We don't have a mass transit system to speak of but we have a few walkable neighborhoods. St Pete Beach is very walkable, downtown St Pete, SoHO/Hyde Park in Tampa, and Ybor/ Channelside area in Tampa. Ybor/Channelside has a trolley that is very helpful, except it runs stupid hours because it is geared towards tourists. For instance if you lived in Ybor, you can take he trolley to hockey games or the publix on Bayshore, but you have to do your grocery shopping after 10AM, which is when the trolley starts running. My wife and I lived on Harbour Island in Downtown. My wife didn't drive, so she would take the trolley to work in Ybor. It worked great, but only because her work didn't start till 11AM

Orlando, will have a nice train system early next year phase 1 will open.

I would argue that system will be much nicer than anything in south florida.

Its called Sunrail if you wanna look it up.
