Last time I drove to Captiva, I-75 from Tampa down was full of construction. It was a bumpy, unpleasant ride with maniacs weaving in and out of uneven lanes. Were I to have your options, I'd opt for Fort Lauderdale and cut through Alligator Alley and up past Naples.

Good to know thanks. I drove from Sebastian to Long Boat Key once and that wasn't a bad drive. I'd rather be on backroads with some changes in scenery than freeway. I'll check out the resort too.
