Really missing Central Market in Texas.
As already stated thankfully there are some options that have begun appearing. Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, and Fresh Market have been here for awhile with Lucky's Market, Earth Fare and Sprouts sprinkled around the state with more on the way. With Bi-Lo (who previously acquired Winn-Dixie) in financial straits and Kroger seemingly backing out of expanding it would seem Wegman's might be giving it some thought with their expansion into NC currently.

You know.....I think more of it depends on where their stores are located....and what their customers are
Our Winn Dixie is very up scale....much better quality and better variety than our closest Publix

Might try a store in a more upscale neighborhood

Largely because they're brand new stores versus often somewhat older existing stores. I would bet the playing levels in the next few years after the newness wears off.

Actually I agree that Publix does a pretty good job. Their meat is good but they are on the high price side for hard goods. Hard to beet WalMart for everyday hard goods but I don't buy meat other than chicken and ribs there. They have a decent bakery for breads, especially the Italian loaf.

I agree that Publix's don't seem modern and always look like something stuck in in the late 90s. Unimpressed as well. Do most of my shopping at whole foods/Trader Joes

Which is why many Floridians seem to be drawn there I think, a lot in common...

Same, I do like the variety of meats though Publix has though. I don't find a lot of them at other Western grocery stores.

Having lived and traveled all over the country, Publix is one of the best grocery stores, I find only one, Harris Teeter, being better. All Publix stores are generally good, but some are outstanding, others could use improvement, but those are the deviations in what is generally a quality grocery chain.

Publix is good for a mainstream grocery store, meaning it beats the stuffing out of Albertsons, Safeway, Target etc but it can't compare to Whole Foods, Trader Joes, Lucky's etc.

People in Florida seem to be very enamored with Publix. More than likely because they have seen nothing better.
