Hello! We are a young 30's couple with 2 young kids. We currently live in Illinois (*sigh*) and are moving in the next year. I am trying to convince my husband to consider Florida (likely North Florida) but he is resistant. He loves being outside hiking, rock climbing, and mountain biking. I use mountain very loosely because, again, we live in Illinois. Do any areas with these things exist in Florida? Thank you!

Some large dunes but no mountains.

Ocala State Park is especially popular for hiking and bike riding.

Thank you! I tried to keep my post brief but I guess I should clarify and say that I know there aren't any true mountains in Florida but more looking for trails people use for "mountain" biking

No mountain anything in Florida, not even hills in my opinion.

However, there are tons of hiking trails and bike paths. Don’t move to FL if you want to do the same as where you live. However, try similar new things in FL. For example, one of my favorite outdoor things to do is kayaking the natural springs. I find it more fun and loberating than hiking where I grew up in Alaska. If you want to live in a city Orlando or Gainesville would be your best options in my opinion.

There are quite a number of mtn biking trails in Florida as well as hiking trails. Lot of places to paddle if you're into that or what to try. Florida may be flat but that doesn't mean there isn't a lot of outdoor things to do. The issue can be the summer and how hot and humid it gets but you adjust.

Do you have any trails you like best? Thank you!

Here’s the highest “mountain” in Florida. Enjoy those 312 feet

I mountain bike in Tampa and Jax. There are several trails in the state. You could live N. FL and head to GA and NC on weekends, lots of regional trails. 9 months out of the yr, pretty hot temps though.

This site should help:

Home | Florida Trail Association

I used to hike the Olustee section (Osceola National Forest) often when I lived near there. It's quite rugged but a lot of fun. I probably don't need to tell you this but try to check in with a Ranger, Warden etc. before you head out...most of these trails are primitive.
