I've been on the Panhandle coast from Pensacola to Panama City, but no further down...until the Tampa area. On the Panhandle, about where does the emerald color water start (or end) and is is a gradual change or is it well defined?

Pretty much right in the Big Bend. Doesn't really get clear emerald/blue again until the Hernando County area. Then it progressively gets more blue the further south you go.

I figured as much. Any idea where in the Big Bend, and if the change in color is sudden or gradual?

Using Google Maps and their satellite and street view features, it appears the emerald color waters start to fade away along the Franklin County shoreline, on St. George Island. The white sand remains, however.

In my opinion, some of the prettiest coastline our country has to offer.
