I would like to live in the lower keys. We rehab homes in Baltimore,MD. Does anyone know how this kind of business is in the area?

Prices have risen so high, I wonder if you can actually sell a home in the Keys anymore. It is a given that homes there will always be more expensive than on the mainland though. With the restrictions on new construction, buying a dump and redoing it is always in demand.

the keys is a great place to visit and vacation but to live there let alone do business there is something else. A single wide mobile home sells for $300,000. Most city employees (policeman, firemen, some hospital staff etc.) get special funds just to help them just live down there because it's so expensive. While we were down there, we got to talking to some officers on duty in the streets and what they told us is most people live on the mainland and travel to work everyday along the keys. There really isn't much down there and could you imagine FL insurances don't usually like to insure mobile homes on the mainland, forget about the keys. Mostly vacation homes for rent but other than that, i think you would do better with rehab homes on the mainland. More homes to choose from and more people who would probably buy them if the choice was to buy in the Keys or the mainland.
