So here I am packing up for the big move and I'm looking at all of my winter stuff. Do I get rid of it all? I was planning on keeping one heavy jacket for each of us for when we come back to visit. Should I also keep a hat and gloves? I just don't want to get rid of everything and then need something again - then again, I don't want to store alot either because we all know about the no basemen thing. Thanks

Sounds like you are right on.

Anything you store will get in your way. I think hats and gloves always come in handy in Florida winters, even if it's only a day here or there. Your hands will get cold on the steering wheel, a hat keeps you from needing that heavy coat. I forgot where you're moving, but I also like having silk-weight thermal underwear for those chilly outdoor excursions. Thin, light layers are better than those giant parkas here. Plus they don't take up much room.

Also hang on to a couple of your favorite sweaters or fleece outerwear. Even in South Florida you will have a chilly morning where you will appreciate the warmth.

Thanks for posting, Minnie. I'm wondering how much of my winter stuff to hold onto also.

You won't need it here, I have not owned a sweater or jacket in 20 years. Don't get rid of your gear though, you'll need it when you move back north to the United States!

Thanks, TR, but I wouldn't take bets on that one!

well when i go back to N.H. to visit with family, I have 1 jacket i keep in FL and i do have light sweaters as i get cold easy but if i need more when i visit family in N.H., i just borrow my sisters clothing. Last time we went in the winter and we did a lot of snowmobiling which i have no clothing for that in FL. I actually fit into my nieces ski pants, my sisters' neighbor loaned pair of ski pants for my husband to wear and my daughter fit into my other neices ski pants. Living in N.H. and with my family loving outdoors years round, they always have extra scarves, mittens, hats and outdoor wear. If you have family to go back, maybe they can keep a few things for you up there if they have the room but i'd just bring a few light sweaters and a jacket. You won't need them very much and if you need more, the stores sell sweaters and jackets down here too for a short time.

If you are moving to south Florida you won't need any of it. When you go in a thrift store down here you can not believe the winter clothes you see. Stuff you would pay a fortune for up north and they can't give it away. I bought a London Fog coat with a heavy liner for $3.00, it probably cost new $175.00. Still have yet to ware it. A light golf jacket is the most you usually need or a nice sweater. You have to remember also, most houses down here have little storage, no sellers or attics. Give the stuff to someone who can use and forget about it.

No with the increase in living expenses and the constant fighting I gave up travelling. It's no fun when you're on vacation and then your parents call you to say that someone vandalized their car or that Team Metro is fining them 250.00 a day because they won't let them examine their backyard. Last time I was at a convention in Vegas and landed in Miami and took the shuttle to my parents home only to find the neighbor letting the air out of their tires.
