We took the Niece and Nephew to IHOP last Thursday night for the kids eat free promotion..
They both had these chocolate, chocolate chip pancakes that were the size of the dinner plate..
Wow they were so freekin good, I asked the waitress if I could order from the kids menu next time..

Our dinners were pretty good also, but I wanted to steal their pancakes.

As a side note, my Brother wasn't happy I allowed his children to eat chocolate pancakes for dinner.
But I will do it again!!!

Have to agree with you pretty much; I used to be our stand by when traveling cause we could count on the quality and the menu. Yes, the menu is the same, but have been in many up til about a few years ago: if nothing else they are dated and the wait staff not very friendly, poor service, not particularly clean and I think it is even getting pricey.

Now to be honest I am not a huge fan on IHOP anymore either more. I guess my old age is getting to me an I am just an old crab.

Denny's is a different story. Big complaints about the food and especially the wait. In my town our Denny's is awful and always has been. It is wait wait wait. Last time I was there, I walked out and never ever returned. That was years ago. I won't go to a Denny's ever.

I did give it a few chances to prove itself, and it failed miserably. We have a lot of choices in this area and Denny's isn't one of them. It exists, but it isn't a choice.
We walked out of one in Santa Rose NM about 8 years ago and have only been to a couple of Denny's since, including a local one here. We stopped going there a couple of years ago; it was not very clean and the wait staff wanted to be anywhere but at work.

Okay, you forced me, lol.

Today we went to a nearby IHOP. We had been to IHOP before and their pancakes were pretty good. Apparently they vary a lot from franchise to franchise because today when I ordered pancakes they didn't even have maple syrup as an option. I always pay a little bit extra to get a small bottle of maple syrup for my pancakes.

I would have had to have some cheapo fake sugar syrup so I cancelled my order. Hubby ordered sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs, ham, and hash browns. I ate a little bit off his plate and the hash browns were so salty they were inedible. He said the ham was "that reconstituted junk." The bacon was burned. The sausage was ok and so were the eggs. Coffee was good.

We did ask the manager why there was no maple syrup for the pancakes--after all IHOP used to stand for International House of Pancakes, didn't it? Pancakes and maple syrup go together. AND this was in New Hampshire where they MAKE maple syrup and it's a tradition.

Manager was clueless. We are never going there again.

OTOH, we don't have Denny's here but we ate there once in Florida and it was good for breakfast when you were on the road. You could get a nice small sized portion--just right, not too much. So I guess of the two, I would vote for Denny's.

We have more IHOPs within our weekend range for driving than the Denny's. We are quite fortunate that the 2 Denny's that we do go to on occasion are quite clean and no issues with staff there. I like their steak and egg skillets. IHOPs - steak omelet (split in 1/2 for left overs). OMG, that is huge!!! Either way, we end up taking 1/2 home for breakfast the following day.
