I tried some KILLER choc chip cookies this weekend - they had dried cranberries in them. The guy that made them showed me the container - I didn't really notice the brand - it was a small pint container with "Organic Dried Cranberries" on the label. I've never eaten cranberries or had any desire to - guess I didn't know what I was missing. Are these generally available in the grocer's?
They are. Often they are called "craisins" (althought that is technically the Oceanspray brand)....usually, they are sweetened quite a bit so if you are watching sugar, be aware. They are really yummy on spinach salads...
dried cranberries can be addictive! I love them, but as Maciesmom said, they are full of sugar. I agree about the spinach salads. YUMMY! DH takes them in his lunch every day, and eats some while driving home from work.
I'm eating them right now in some homemade granola. When I lived near a Trader Joe's I purchased them there, Whole Foods has some organic ones too, now I can only get craisins but they're still yummy. I put them in Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies and cut back on the sugar a bit.

There are very few people who would be able to handle cranberries without the addition of some sweetening agent. On their juice products, Ocean Spray carries two different lines of reduced calorie juices with different sweetners in addition to their normal lines.
Hmm...since these were labeled "organic", doesn't it seem as if they would have no added sugar?
For those people that like these...do you also like raisins? I can't stand raisins - not plain, not in cookies or anything - so I was really surprised that I loved the taste of the cranberries.
Actually, I believe "organic" is more a definition of how the food is grown/produced (particularly the use of pesticides and sometimes extending to land/soil usage):
There are organic chocolate bars too - it has to do with the actual ingredients....so as long as the sweetener is organic (whether it is sugar or fruit based), the end product is still organic.
ETA - I could be mistaken so if someone knows differently, please chime in....but this has been my understanding
That's my understanding too.
I love craisins, but I don't like raisins at all. The texture is about same but they taste different.
