Sometimes I microwave cut-up vegetables in their serving bowl with just a touch of water.

Put a paper towel or microwave plate cover over.

They come out just fine.

Ditto. I can't see how they'd be any better than steaming in a bowl in the microwave, aside from just more expensive..

Use a bamboo steamer (or the metal variation)..they've been around so long for a reason. Plus, no cancer rays!

Please consider changing that habit using plastic in the microwave isn't a good thing. It really isn't if you stop and think about it. I haven't done it since 1993 when a cancer center warned us when we took our mother down there.

OP the Ziplock bags are just a come on to get your money use a glass bowl to cook your veggies in.

whether or not you use a plastic bag to cook in or not, if you are going to get cancer, you will. There is no guarentee that by using a traditional pot to cook in wont kill you. Your just as likely to contract a elevated risk of cancer, by breathing in that lovely new car smell, or from gas fumes, and even from using your cell phone.

Steaming is easy enough without doing it in a baggie.

Hmmm... I've never owned a new car, I don't own a cellphone, and I fill the tank once every two months, if that.

Excellent... three more cancer contributors I can remove from the list, along with never microwaving in plastic.
