Romantic? It's not in midtown, but One If By Land, Two If By Sea is GREAT. So is Cafe des Artistes (also not in midtown). There aren't many romantic restaurants in midtown....

I thought Jezebel's was very romantic. When you call for reservations, tell them you want a table with a swing.

If something other than midtown is acceptable try Villa Mosconi on McDougal Street right off Houston 1 block east of sixth ave. They serve authentic old world style Italian dishes and the pasta is made on premise. They have a beautiful courtyard you can eat in which makes you feel like your in some Italian restaurant in the middle of Italy. The prices are very reasonable for New York and you won't be dissapointed. "Mangiare buono". If your going toward the end of May you'll have The Feast of Saint Anthony going on as well over on Sullivan Street which is a great time or if you talking mid September there's the Feast of San Gennaro which is on Mott and Mulberry. Great feasts to enjoy after a nice dinner, just go easy on the zeppoli.

I liked Barbounia on Park Ave South at 20th Street. Nice decor, good food. It's around the corner from the very expensive five star Gramercy Tavern.

Serendipity is always a great suggestion.

For more replies I would suggest posting this on the NYC forum.
