I think the stupidest one I've seen in a long time is potatoes ready to be baked. Really? It's a potato wrapped in foil. How hard could this be to prepare?
I will be honest, I have decided to stay away from the fresh prepared lettuce and salad stuff, due to all the health issues with them. I would rather just wash lettuce and spinach myself, than have e coli.
I agree, and I think fresh chopped tastes better anyway.

And sadly, people are buying these or they wouldn't be selling them otherwise. Can you imagine the profit margins on these things? I mean, I'm sure all the store does is slap some foil on these things, which probably costs them a grand total of a couple nickles and jacks up the price for the "convenience" factor. Like the great P.T. Barnum once said, "There's a sucker born everyday." If only I would of thought of this, lol.
I'll weigh in on instant rice as well. Real rice is one of the easiest items to cook.
I do buy instant mashed potatoes for one side dish I make, which is a baked thing with lots of cheddar and onions. As a rice eater, I don't like real mashed potatoes so there's no sacrifice to taste for me.
I have changed up a lot of recipes from packages of convenience foods, and from websites featuring the brands of convenience foods.
I substutute real mashed potatoes for Potato Buds, real whipping cream for Cool Whip, fresh green beans for canned, etc. I would rather spend a little more time cooking and produce a better meal, so I skip the shortcut convenience foods.

oh I buy them all the time, they come in 5 or 10 lbs bags and are ready to bake excpet they have to be scrubbed a little and they do not come in foil. Is that what you are talking about? I

I prefer rice over mashed potatoes in most cases.
I forgot to mention that instant mashed potatoes is another "NO" for me. Can't stand them.
I don't know a single person in my family (extended family as well) that dislikes the KFC mashed potatoes which taste like instant to me. Can't eat them. They all love the KFC ones.
I use jarred pasta sauce, canned beans, frozen veggies, things like that.
Upthread people were objecting to instant oatmeal packets, but I usually have a box of those in my desk at work. IfI'm feeling peckish in the afternoon I'll dump an packet in my mug, add some hot water from the water dealy in the lounge, and I've got a snack that feels a bit healthier than if I'd gotten a candy bar out of the vending machine.
