The only one I know of is the southern tradition of eating black eyed peas on New Years Day. I have family in AL who follow the tradition every year, they seem pretty happy/prosperous but I don't know if that has more to do with planning or peas.
Happy New Year!
The peas are for coin money and good luck. The greens are for different dollar denominations. Based on last year, I plan to stuff in all of the greens I can.
We were brought up to believe that corn, wine and oil were supposed to bring you good luck for the New Year. being a superb cook of Italian cuisine my Wife alo believes that garlic should be added to that
We always ate pickled herring on New Year's Eve when I was a kid. Never met anyone else who did that.
Well, now you have! We always had to have pickeled herring on NYE - started with my grandparents, who were German, don't know if it's a German tradition or just a family one, but gotta have the pickled herring!
