I much prefer Inn-In-Out over 5 Guys but I never tried Shake Shack. Saw one in NYC that had a very long line of patient people, so I assumed it much worth the wait.
You might think that, but no, not in my experience.
My sole experience with Shake Shake was on the upper east side, where somebody I was with was insistent that we go, because this was a lifechanging burger place. Such a long line and so crowded that people were eating in the outside seating area...at the end of December in a blizzard. So I was like, "Wow, this must really be great." When I got my food, so disappointed that I'd waited in a line out the door in the snow for it. Just, no.
Battle of the titans. Which one is better in your opinion?
Never even heard of a Shake Shake. Been to both In-N-Out and Five Guys and it isnt even close. In-N-Out wins by several miles.
There are two Five Guys in my general area - Studio City and Northridge. Ive never seen more than one or two customers in the Studio City location, and Northridge, being in a high traffic college area, about the same. In-N-Out burgers are ALWAYS packed. ALWAYS long lines both inside and in drive through.
So its not just me favoring In-N-Out, its most people in my area.
Had to Google Shake Shack and they arent even a player because they dont have any locations in California so to me they are non-existent.
