...or blooming? Or those skinny little straws or frizzles? What do you like?
I'm a beer batter aficionado but at home if there's oil going it's easy to slice some onion real thin, soak in milk for a few minutes then toss in seasoned flour and drop in the oil until they're "frizzled."
I like the light tempura like batters. And the onion strings served by the Buckhorn Grill - thin crispy oniony deliciousness!!!
I like mine dipped in a little BBQ sauce.
I've had both that were good but I prefer a good heavy batter, I can sometimes leave the onion and eat the crunch on the outside.
Blooming onion type things were a huge fad for me at one time, I had to have one if they were offered.. Not so much anymore..

They didn't disappear. They are still in Maine. In Kittery, to be precise.
My favorite place -- Three Buoys -- closed but this place is great too: https://www.bobsclamhut.com/ And, yes, they have whole belly clams. Yum, yum.
