I watched a cooking show about an Indian restaurant that was knows for a certain super hot curry made with chile extracts. The cook actually had to wear a gas mask because the fumes would choke him while it cooked down.
I will admit to eating a whole Carolina Reaper (1.5M Scoville). The Bhut Jolokia cultivar (Ghost Peppers) are around 1M Scoville and a regular Jalapeño is up to 10k Scoville. Police pepper spray is up to 1M Scoville so I guess I could have sprayed that in my mouth and it not be quite as hot. Personally I find the Scoville scale to be asymptotic to 'OMG I'M GONNA DIE' I didn't find Reapers much more savage than Ghosts, I guess when 100% of your pain receptors are firing you can't fire any more. I did get a massive endorphin high once the heat subsided, capsaicin it's the only legal way to fly in all 50 states.
That said food wise heat shouldn't be the goal, I hate the Chili's and so on that just pile in hot sauce or pure heat peppers, without really adding to the flavor (and don't get me started on chili potato chips, or as I prefer to call them hot pencil shaving flavor).
I don't get the whole super hot pepper thing. I like a little heat, but what I really want is flavor. After point all you get is burn that totally kills the flavor.

Why bother?
There's a restaurant in Brooklyn, NY that was on Man vs Food. The chef, Adam Richman and the crew had to wear gas masks. Anyone who orders the dish has to sign a waiver. I agree--why bother when you can't taste the food!
Eating a hot pepper is a recipe for disaster if you arent used to eating them,it takes a while to become accustomed to the heat
it takes time to burn off those taste buds...
like saying staring into the sun is bad, but do it long enough and a blind man can stare all day
spicy lovers are the same as drug addiction, need larger hits because the same amount stops being effective
