How long does supermarket pre-made beef/chicken/fish stock last?

Especially after opening. The carton does say how long, but I am wondering it will actually last longer if I leave in frig, and for how long. Even egg cartons have expirations but we all know that the eggs last much longer than that.

Freeze it. Then you won't have to wonder if it's still good next time.

If you refrigerate it immediately after opening, it's good for about a week. If you freeze it, it will last indefinitely with regards to spoilage. However, it's quality will degrade over time. An unopened, undamaged and properly stored package will last for several years, although its quality will degrade after 2-3 years.

Once you break an egg, it will spoil rather quickly. An eggshell is quite a good natural package.

ive got college inn chicken broth in my cupboard for years....

I did buy one of those rectangle cardboard containers of chicken broth -I had it quite a quite a while after opening...I use the sniff test.... just because it smells a little musky doesn't mean its "bad"

cook it to 165f

No, they don't have expirations, they have 'sell by' dates.

The kind that comes in the carton usually has some kind of preservative in it. I've had it last 3 weeks in a cold fridge, at least 38f. I looked up Swansons and it contains celery juice, a natural preservative. Celery is a natural source of nitrates.
