Stewed tomatoes with torn bread cooked in it!
Cucumbers in cream sauce (she had a special way that I have not been able to copy).
Her scrambled eggs were the best!
Her homemade candies were to die for!
Honestly I think my grandmothers dishes were so good because she made them with love!!!
Nana was such a good cook...fried catfish, chicken liver pate, latkes, kolache...list is endless but her absolute very bestest was a buttermilk pie. It was a pie that was made of eggs, sugar and buttermilk that had the consitency of a cream pie but the taste of cheesecake. Topped with fresh whiped cream it was - literally - ambrosia.
I've never heard of buttermilk pie, but boy does it sound good!
Check this out. I found it on NPR. It includes the recipe!
My grandmother used to make cinnamon bread for us every time she came to visit. She was a great baker of all things, but that bread was what we all loved the most. My paternal grandmother was a fantastic cook, I hear, but she could no longer see by the time I came along. My mother still uses many of her recipes and they're all super delicious.
As for the weather in my region, it varies day to day. Typical spring. Yesterday was windy and rain. Today sunny and cool, at times warm. New England weather changes every 30 minutes, but I love it here. Always something to look forward to! Right now we are looking forward to Rhubarb. I froze fresh picked organic strawberries last summer so we are going to make strawberry rhubarb pie. Can't wait for the Maine blueberries to come. Nothing like fresh blueberry pie!
Rhubarb pie.....mmmmmmm
I also have a good recipe for rhubarb cake....
