It's too difficult to pick just one thing!

I do remember the first time we ever made pulled pork. We inherited a friend's smoker and I found a recipe in Bon Apetit magazine that called for a spice rub and a thin, vinegary baste. (I love barbecue.) The meat smoked for several hours, and we kept basting it exactly like the recipe said. The smell was SO good, and when we finally took the meat off the shred with forks, we couldn't help eating it with our fingers as we shredded. It was hot enough to burn our fingers and lips but so tasty we hardly cared.

Served the pork on buns with homemade coleslaw and BBQ sauce. Delish.

On my last vacation I ordered what was supposed to be dinner for two served on a wooden plate at a place called Bagolyvar (Owl's Fort) in Hungary. We were served something similar to the photo in this link, with some exceptions:

Yes, it was enough food to feed at least 4, not 2. It included cordon bleu turkey breasts, veal cutlets, pork chops, grilled ground venison meat shaped into thin logs, piles of real French fries made from fresh potatoes, mixed vegetables, salads, etc. One of the most memorable meals.

Variety in a meal is such a big deal for me - which is why I probably love sushi so much. Which reminds me....here's a photo of heaven on a platter:

His mother had come to visit and she'd made red beans and rice, dirty rice, corn bread, the works. Not only was it a wonderful surprise, but that woman could cooooook!

2) A little motel outside of Harrodsburg, Kentucky. There was a small cafe attached to it. I had fried fish and hoecakes. (Flat corn bread pancakes.) I'd never had them before. This Southern Californian yuppie ate so much the cook came out to see who it was.

I should also add every single meal my grandmother Agnes ever cooked.
Hoecakes are best with some sawmill gravy!

Ladies, when I browsed that website that I found that photo on, I noticed that they take phone or online orders and deliver. Caveat - they are located in several places throughout HAWAII. I was almost tempted to call them to see if they could fly a platter out to me in LA!

Well, they're definitely not shipping to the East coast which means... I have to move to Hawaii. Oh well.
