Ziploc Omelet- I saw this done on the local news this morning and it really works. In fact I just tried it myself and it was a thumbs up!

Crack 2 eggs into a large ziploc bag close up and squish the eggs together then re-open and put sliced up green peppers, cheese ect..... in there (whatever you want in there) (just don't put anything to mushy in there)
get all the air out and zip back up. Then place the ziploc bag in a pot of boiling water for exactly 13 mins- then carefully open and roll out onto a plate. It came out great Give it a try

No, it's not...I can't believe someone would think it's a good idea to boil plastic! I remember this from a Rachael Ray show and the health community came out stating that one should NEVER boil plastic bags! Here's the article:

"It is so easy to start something unhealthy like the idea of a ZIPLOC OMELET. All you have to do is type it up and send it out to everyone you know via e-mail. It spreads like wild fire."

"We have contacted the Ziploc company and they replied by telling us that ZIPLOC® brand Bags cannot be used to boil food."

According to SC Johnson's Frequently Asked Questions page:

Can I boil in Ziploc® Brand bags?
No. Ziploc® Brand bags are not designed to withstand the extreme heat of boiling.

Ziploc Omelets may be Toxic

Just use Corning Ware in the micro... comes out the same middle of the road, not horrible, not great. Add 1 teaspoon of water.

You can also purchase those special plastic omelet makers made just for the microwave. They are a around a $1 or 2 at Wal Mart, etc. Over time this is much cheaper than using ziploc bags and they are the hard plastic that is safer than ziplocs. Having said that, I try not to use any plastic whatsoever with my food. Even with glass one has to be careful about the qualities and properties. It's all so exhausting!

ok, it takes 13 minutes?! even if it WERE a good idea to boil plastic--which we know it is not, it would be MUCH quicker to just make the omelet in a pan--like it has ALWAYS been done.
why are people always trying to fix what is not broken??
is someone getting royalties for getting more people to buy more Ziploc??

I'm too cheap to buy Ziploc bags just to save some time/effort to cook with them.

Why would this be unsafe? The plastic bag didn't melt whatsoever- I tried it myself.
This radio DJ lady told this local news station about it and said that she had tried it before.
The local news station made it on their morning show yesterday morning. These are not dumb people and they sure wouldn't of demonstrated making it on live tv yesterday if they thought it might be unsafe.
