I had a '62 4-door hardtop once, Bought it out of a pasture for $50 in pretty nice shape other than the rust all the way around the bottom from sinking into the ground. I overhauled the engine but wound up moving it out of the garage because I needed the space to park my '66 convertible and eventually sold it. It later burned up when the building the new owner was storing it in caught fire.
I always like the style of that year, but they weren't very popular at thie time I owned mine and parts were hard to come by.
Another comment I wanted to make about those great mid/late 60s big Fords is that, given a choice between a brand new....say....'68 LTD and a brand new late model Crown Vic, I would take the '68 every day of the week and twice on Sunday. They were far superior cars in terms of overall comfort, performance, and styling.
The feeling of driving one back then when they were new was a whole different, higher level of satisfaction than virtually anything that has been made in the last 20+ years. The self-inflicted wounds that our once great auto industry has suffered are just a cryin' shame.
had a 66 Galaxie 500 blue. had it from 66 to 75, it started peeling paint in it's final days and the final decision to sell it was when the master cylin der gave way on a highway overpass. traded it in for a 75 Buick Century Regal. we thought the Ford was smooth and quiet until we test drove the Buick...
wasn't there a Mercury Montclair around 66?. i remember dad tried to park the demo Mercury in the garage and it barely fit
I always liked the mid 60s ford galaxys look. The inside is abit plain on this car. Im watching the 60s tv show "Hazel" & the show shows a really nice blue galaxy 500 at the beginning. A fully loaded galaxy 500 convertable would be nice but the gas milage is poor. I did see a white 66 galaxy 500 convertable for sale in town for $8,500.00. The interior was brown & the car only had pwr steering & brakes with the original am radio. The center cap on the steering wheel was missing just like in these pics. Cute Girl Selling 1965 Ford Galaxie 500 for $3,800!
My next door neighbor had one and dropped a 429 cid motor in it along with 411 gears . It was a rocket on the street.
My folks had a '64 2 door Galaxie 500. Had side mirrors out on the front fenders and had the 352. Great car and it actually had air conditioning, which we were not allowed to use because why would anybody need air conditioning in a car? It was much more rounded than the '65. They really squared it off for'65.
A few mid 60s mopars are nice. Can you name the luxury mopars from that era ? I like luxury cars incl sports cars thar are loaded like the 82 Z28 camero i owned until a low life drunk driver totaled it. UGH!
i would love to own a 65 or 66 galaxy, hard top or sedan. i would prefer the two door, but a four door would do just fine as well. with a 289/auto it would be a nice daily driver. if one needed more power, then a step up the the 351w, a virtual bolt in swap, would work just fine.
