I drove an '04 Taurus for several years and had constant problems with the A/C. Quite a few other people I know who have had Fords have had similar problems.
I'm interested in either a Ford or a Hyundai, and living in TX, air conditioning is a feature I need to be reliable.
We had a 01 Mercury that lost its AC around 150k. That being said, I never knew Fords had AC problems. If they did, it appears to not be a problem any longer.
Maybe it wasn't as widespread as I thought. I assumed it was a common problem since I have spoken to so many people that experienced the same problems that I did. Thanks.
I've never had AC problems on my Ford trucks. Trucks are the only Fords that I've owned with AC. My 1997 F150 has over 144,000 miles and still blows cold air. I had a 1981 F150 that was blowing cold air when I sold it five years ago.
Never had an A/C problem in all the fords I have owned or drove. Well other then needing a recharge. Chevrolet's would give me problems.
That's exactly what the issue was. I would have to take it in several times a year for an A/C recharge. I'm driving a Camry now with 113k miles and it has never needed a recharge.
And yes, it might have been a Taurus issue rather than a Ford issue. I have received enough responses here to convince me that I shouldn't worry about the A/C when making a decision.

If you're having "constant" problems with your A/C, somebody is not doing their job right. A properly functioning A/C, that has no leaks, will run flawlessly for many years.
