So my dad is buying me my first car. The only thing I have to be responsible for is insurance. I have a job and I'm willing to spend upto $200 a month.
How much do you think my insurance will be? Do you think it will be reliable and affordable to fix? Also is it expensive to keep filled with gas?
Facts. 19, I live in Ohio (a small suburb) I did drivers Ed (I heard you get a discount for that)
I make $800 a month not including my side jobs.
Getting down to the actual business at hand... what in particular do you like about the Mustang? What attributes are you looking for in a car? Are you considering other options?
Even actual insurance quotes can vary by over $100 per month, so nobody here will be able to even speculate on your insurance rates. That said, Mustangs, particularly V8 versions, are typically on the high side to insure.
Also, how well do you drive in snow? You'll probably need to drop about $1000 on dedicated winter rims/tires that you swap on/off twice a year. Unless you want to lose traction on every turn with your all seasons every time a little white fluff gets dropped (which is very often in Ohio). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2C_E6pOVzk
For a 19 year old in a sports car, be prepared to receive quotes between 200-300 bucks. If this is just liability it will be way less. Seeing as it's an older model and your dad is paying cash(?) I would just get liability.
Beings this is your first car, and you live in Ohio, you do not want a mustang. I drove a mustang in Iowa for a winter, it was rough. I made it work and never got stranded, but I also had a good 4 to 5 years of driving experience already.
Call a couple insurance companies and get some quotes to be certain. That said, a Mustang is likely to generate some really high quotes for someone your age. Be very prepared to pay a lot.
Also Op this would be a great vehicle to find with manual transmission since it will teach you a skill that alot of people do not have and will/can be helpful the rest of your life if you ever need it.
