Yup. And the old 7.3 IDI was also a decent runner.

The 7.3 is a workhorse that will be around for a long time to come. They're not going to win any races, but they'll run forever. My dad bought a 1995 F350 with the 7.3 with over 250k miles. The truck looked brand new and the engine ran like a champ. He used it to tow his 36ft 5th wheel camper for years. He eventually sold it with over 400k because it would randomly shut down and he never could get it fixed. A friend bought it, removed the JET performance chip that had shorted out, and had a new chip installed. He said it's still going strong at over 600k on the clock now and is being used as a hot shot truck.

There's a Youtube video out there on a channel called powerstrokedieselhelp or something along those lines. His let go at 798k miles after spraying it hard with nitrous and doing some other work using it as a test horse. When he tore it down, the cylinder walls still had all the cross hatches, the bearings showed almost no wear, and the internals looked great. A rod let go and took a chunk out the side of the block. He said if he had fixed it when he noticed the problem it would still be trucking.

On a side note, this 6.4 impressed me. I had to make a last minute run Monday night from North to South Alabama (about 400 miles) and was getting 21.6 mpg running 80 down the interstate. I got up to 24 coming back at 70 mph. Filled both tanks with fuel and locked the cruise. It never shifted from OD, never struggled and was a comfortable ride. Not to mention I made it there and back with 30 gallons left. Really good ECT and EOT temps (ran around 186 degrees), EGTs never climbed above 800, and it only got into the boost once or twice on a long hill.

In my dad's 7.3 truck we get about 16-17 mpg on the highway.

Your MPG is great. If Mpg is the problem buy a small car and save the truck for real truck stuff.its what I do. I see everyone driving trucks daily that are never used as trucks.

At the time that I posted this, I was just curious to see what stockers were getting over my tuned setup.

I have gotten rid of that truck though since the 6.4 left me stranded a few times in my short 6-8 months of ownership. I now have a deleted 6.7L Cummins that is averaging 18 mpg in town. Not quite the 21.5 I was getting in the Powerstroke but after a year and a half it hasn't left me stranded yet.

I don't intend to buy a third vehicle so that my diesel can sit at home for the occasion when I need it. I prefer to drive it daily. If I need to make a pickup on my way home from work I don't have to drive 20 miles home and back to town to get what I need. I just do it on my way home. No complaints really.
