I am a nervous wreck. We have our house up for sale in Mesa AZ and of course it isn't selling so this may be for nothing. I am in a really goods school district where my kids are thriving but we don't like it here at all....except for our childrens schools which is very important...do I stay here just for that?Mabey. I am researching fort collins schools and have found one jr high labeled as snobby and a couple of elementary schools had bullying issues that were ignored. I got scared. I will be able to purchase a home there assuming our sells for 275-to 300 ish range..does that put me in a higher demographic there or is it ok? I see million dollar homes in areas there and that is not the way it is here where I live and it makes me nervous. I believe in God...I don't believe in platic surgery as a way to be happy..I don't believe in giving my kids everything and that won't change...I accept that others need to choose there own path though but I want to feel like I am not putting my kids in an environment where most kids have it all so to speak..I am a stay at home mom currently and I want my kids to be happy..don't we all? Help!!Should I stay away from certain areas? I haven't even seen FC yet!

Default Important decisions...

Hi Cin,

The best way to know about a place is to actually go there and spend some time to check it out. Doing a "trial run" of a place for a couple of months is a good idea. Only you know what is going to make you and your family happy and what is best. Message board postings (mine included) are only opinions and you know what you can do with those.

Good Luck on your move.

Cin,
I have visited Fort Collins several times and can say the people I encountered were nice, friendly people. Abcde gave great advice too about trying out an area to see if you like it. Every person is different and one might love Fort Collins, another not so much. As far as the city, it is nice. It looks like a family type of town to me.

Smile thanks to you both

Thanks for your replies...your right opionions vary....I do not like the phoenix area yet tons of people do and as far as people go I know that you encounter every type ..everywhere. I am letting fear rule..I will go drive the long 14 hours w/family to check it out in a couple weeks. I think I already know I like it better than here...the only direction to go is up at some point right? Bless you both!

Hi Cin,

The Ft. Collins and Loveland school districts are very good. They both score very high in CSAP year in and year out compared to the rest of the state.

I believe that each school can have their small groups of students who are snobs and bullies. However, I know that the Loveland schools will address the bullying issues when parents approach administration. Bullying is a harassment and can lead to short term suspensions, and if continued, ejection. I would think that Ft. Collins would be similar, provided there is evidence/witnesses that back up the bullying claim, and the parents follow through with administration immediately, not a weeks or months later.

Both Ft. Collins and Loveland are schools of choice, so it really doesn't matter where you live. If you live outside the schools boundary lines, and want your children to attend school somewhere else, then you merely need to inquire as to whether the school that you are interested in as room for your child to attend there.

Take care.
