I have pretty much decided to move to Ft. Collins this summer. I looked at communities around Denver but I am a teacher and I don't think that I can afford housing without getting a roommate. I have always loved Ft. Collins and I am very excited about moving but I have one major concern that might make/break my decision. I am turning thirty in March and I am single. I don't know exactly how to phrase this...but I am concerned that everyone I meet is either going to be a college kid OR married with 3 kids. I'm not desperate to get married by any means and I have nothing against people who are married with children. But I am wondering what the singles/dating scene is like - both for dating and just making new friends. Thanks for any replies!!

Fort Collins does have a university (CSU) but the whole community doesn't circle around the campus like you're probably thinking. There's plenty of singles in FC who have nothing to do with campus. For example, there's also a large number of single people who work in the technology companies around town, as well as many others. Fort Collins has a great mix of people from different age groups and lifestyles.

As I've said in other posts, the newer areas south of approximately Drake Road become largely residential-only with mostly families. You could almost call south Fort Collins a "suburb." So, if you want to put yourself in position to meet lots of friends who aren't families, I'd say look to the northern (older) part of town. It'd also be cheaper, too, as a bonus.

I am a 33 yr old female and moved here from Denver after a break up. I have thought the same exact thoughts as you have... How do I meet people here? It's nice to hear someone else dealing with the same dilemma. I am social, but I'm on my 30's. I don't want to go to a bar by myself, but maybe I should?
